Of all the segments in the automotive industry, the most competitive for any automaker is the mid-size sedan segment. In recent years, it's really been heating up, with top-notch offerings from Japanese automakers, and even a few American ones. Those previous rulers, however, should prepare themselves to be swept off their perch. The 2015 Chrysler 200 is coming.
We'd be surprised if you haven't heard about this car by now. The press has virtually eaten it up since it was unveiled in Detroit last week. But for our drivers here in Kennewick, WA, we'd like to cover how this car will best suit them when it hits our showroom.
The design process of the 200 was a mixture of driver feedback on the current model, and Chrysler's innovation. The goal was to create a car that was stylish (check), fuel efficient (oh, yeah), comfortable (mm-hmm), and functional (ding-ding-ding!).
The exterior design is modern and aerodynamic, which doesn't just look good, but aids in fuel economy. Power comes by way of either a 2.4-liter Tigershark four-cylinder or a 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 mated to the same nine speed transmission found on the Jeep Cherokee. Chrysler says this will allow the car to get 35 mpg highway.
What's more, Chrysler has also done a lot of work to make the interior as spacious and comfortable as possible. A rotary shifter has freed up extra space for sliding cup holders, more infotainment real estate, and storage space.
