Changing Your Fluids: Basic Guidelines

Everyone already knows the rule of thumb for getting your oil changed, and you know you want to do it about every 3,000 miles. Well, there is a little more to your fluid maintenance, and at Lithia Chrysler Jeep Dodge of Tri-Cities, we’re here to help you out.

Along with changing your oil, you want to remember to change your coolant, brake fluid, power steering fluid, and transmission fluid. Each is different and requires a different timeline, so here are a few rules of thumb: With your coolant, you want to check the levels twice every year, and have it changed every few years. Brake fluid can go for two years tops without a change, but if you notice anything that feels off when braking, check the fluid first. This is one you definitely don’t want to put off! Power steering fluid can be topped off when needed, checking it every month or so. Last, your transmission fluid should also be checked monthly, and replaced at regular intervals. Of course if you’re in our neighborhood, come down to Lithia Chrysler Jeep Dodge of Tri-Cities and we can take a look for you. We can even let you know how often your specific vehicle needs its fluids changed. Stop out or call us and set up an appointment any time.
